The opioid epidemic continues to gain speed across Virginia and the nation, now claiming more lives than car accidents and gun violence. Naloxone is a safe and very effective antidote to this preventable cause of death - we MUST ensure everyone who needs it has it!
On Tuesday, January 17th we are asking supporters and advocates to call or email your representatives to support SB848 and HB1449 which would allow state certified overdose reversal instructors to give out naloxone at their community trainings. This is vital to saving lives in Virginia because right now the public can only get naloxone from participating pharmacies and many people can't afford it, don't live near a pharmacy that carries it, don't know it's available, or are afraid to self-identify at a public pharmacy counter. Certified overdose reversal instructors are integrated in the community, have developed trust with at-risk populations, and are passionate about saving lives. Allowing them to dispense is crucial. Please join us in the fight to stop overdose death by contacting your representative on January 17th!
