Second Chance, an app currently being developed by The University of Washington, transforms your phone into an active sonar, allowing it to detect signs on an overdose. Once an overdose is detected, the app automatically notifies friends, family members and emergency medical personal who are equipped with naloxone. Although the app is still in the development phase, this technology is a great first step in using smartphones to reduce overdose deaths through reducing response time.
